What Is School-Based ABA Therapy?

School-based ABA therapy means our therapists come to your child's classroom and work with them during the actual school day.

No pulling them out for sessions somewhere else. No trying to transfer skills learned in a clinic to real life.

We're there in the classroom, helping your child succeed right where it counts.

We Work Directly in the Classroom

Our therapists collaborate with your child's teachers and school staff throughout the day, providing support during lessons, transitions, lunch, recess. Wherever your child needs help most.

We Target Real School Challenges

Following directions in class. Staying focused during lessons. Managing frustration when work gets hard. Asking for help appropriately. Navigating social situations. Building independence.

The Skills Stick

When your child learns to raise their hand in their actual classroom, with their actual teacher, during an actual lesson, that skill transfers.

What Changes When We're There

  • Easier time making friends at recess and lunch
  • Better focus during lessons and activities
  • Improved ability to ask for help when needed
  • Smoother transitions between subjects and activities
  • Reduced meltdowns and outbursts
  • More positive calls from teachers
  • Drop-offs that don't end in tears
  • Looking forward to school instead of dreading it

How We Work With Schools

We Coordinate With Teachers

Our therapists communicate regularly with your child's teacher, making sure everyone's on the same page. When a new challenge comes up, we adjust. When progress happens, everyone knows.

We Integrate With IEPs

If your child has an IEP, we work alongside the existing team. We're not replacing services—we're making everything work together better. Less confusion, more consistency.

Apex ABA School-Based Therapy Process

Let’s Get Started

Step 1: Initial Consultation

Reach out to our team. We'll talk about what's happening at school, what your child struggles with, and whether school-based therapy is the right fit for your family.

Step 2: Insurance Authorization

We handle all the paperwork and work directly with your insurance company to get approval. Most plans cover ABA therapy services.

Step 3: School Observation & Assessment

Our BCBA observes your child in their classroom to understand what's already working, what's challenging, and where we can help most.

Step 4: Create the Treatment Plan

We build a customized plan specific to your child's classroom, teacher, and goals.

Step 5: Begin Therapy

Our trained therapist starts working directly with your child during the school day, coordinating with teachers and staff to provide consistent support.

What This Could Mean For Your Child

Your child raising their hand in class because they know how to ask for help now.

Walking into the cafeteria and sitting with friends instead of eating alone.

Coming home talking about their day instead of melting down from holding it together all day.

Feeling capable. Connected. Confident.

That's what happens when they get the right support in the right place.

What Families Are Saying

"From the moment we got in touch with Apex about our 2-year-old daughter, we felt a weight was lifted off our shoulders. They're really there for you. Kind, compassionate, and experts in the field."

"The therapists at Apex are amazing. They've helped our son learn new ways to communicate and cope with frustration. His behavior has improved so much. We feel so lucky to have found Apex."

"My son's communication skills have really improved since he started with Apex. He used to have a hard time telling us what he wanted, but now he's able to communicate much better. We're so happy with the progress being made."

Questions Parents Are Asking

Won't this make my child stand out as different?

Actually, no. Because we work inside the classroom instead of pulling them out, kids feel more included. Our support helps them participate in regular activities like everyone else.

How does this work with their IEP?

We coordinate with the IEP team and other providers. We're not replacing services—we're making everything work together better.

What if the teacher doesn't want you there?

Most teachers are relieved to have support that actually makes their job easier. We're not there to judge or take over—we're there to help everyone succeed.

How long will my child need this?

Our goal is to work ourselves out of a job. As your child builds skills and confidence, they need less direct support. Most kids show major progress within a school year.

Can you work in regular classrooms?

Absolutely. Many of our kids are in general education and just need extra support to keep up with their peers.

Do you help during lunch and recess too?

Yes. Those unstructured times are often the hardest—that's where social struggles show up most. We're there for whatever part of the day your child needs us.

Still have questions?

Can school-based ABA therapy be combined
with in-home ABA therapy?

Yes, school-based and in-home ABA therapy can absolutely be combined. We tailor our services to your child’s unique needs, providing support both in the classroom and at home. This flexible approach ensures consistent progress across all environments.

School Should Work for Your Child

Your child can feel capable at school. Connected to their classmates. Confident in their classroom.

When they get the right support in the right place, that's exactly what happens.
